More Uber and Lyft driver heatmaps from across the US

A week ago, we shared 8 maps from cross the US that showed just how busy it was on the road this holiday season – and that as an Uber or Lyft driver you’re not alone. The maps were a hit!  We decided to share more in our second installment in this visual journey:

Chicago has been one of the busiest rideshare cities outside of the coasts since Uber and Lyft launched there, and has had a few recent pro-rideshare developments: In November, O’Hare and Midway airports started allowing Uber and Lyft pickups. Both companies recently launched their carpool services – UberPool and LyftLine – in Chicago as well.

Car rental options now in Denver: Recently in Denver, Uber partnered with Entreprise Rent-A-Car to offer cars to non-car owners, the first city where this type of partnership exists.

Rideshare to the slopes is now available in Salt Lake City. In September, Salt Lake City started allowing pickups and drop-offs for Uber and Lyft from SLC. And recently Uber launched UberSki, it’s first ski and snowboard specific service, to “deliver” Salt Lake City skiers to the mountains.

Nashville might be the next big rideshare city. In September, Lyft moved its customer support team to Nashville. One can assume there are now hundreds of rideshare evangelists permeating every corner of the city. When Lyft’s support move was reported, it was said it could create as many as 400 jobs in Nashville.

Airport pickups are becoming the new normal. Recently, Phoenix, Atlanta, San Jose, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas – to name a few – have all started allowing rideshare pickups. Even at airport that were once thought as having no chance at rideshare concessions (LAX, LAS) now have the green light, a trend that we’ll likely see continue.

The takeaway: Not only are the roads in regions across the US busy with drivers this holiday season, things are picking up – thanks to new products, moves, and regulations, that should give drivers even more passenger demand. If you want to see these maps for your city right now, you can – on the SherpaShare Android or iOS apps – and see how it’s changing over time. Be safe and have fun out there this holiday season!
